In this section you can read about the range of work currently being undertaken by Nick Cooke. I am happy to discuss potential projects of a similar nature – please see Contact Us.
CLEAR Services provides thesecretariat for the Scottish Pilgrim Routes Forum, a new network of organisations and individuals committed to the development of off-road pilgrimage travel across Scotland – see www.sprf.org.uk This major project, established in 2012 with the help of the ACTS Scottish Churches Rural Group, now has over 40 member bodies and has initiated the physical creation of a new 50 mile Fife Pilgrim Way long distance footpath to St Andrews, Fife. Two more similar walking routes linking Iona to St Andrews and Glasgow to Whithorn are planned.
Wildlife Habitat Management
For several years, CLEAR Services has carried out a range of surveys of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera) to help land managers assess the overall environmental quality of given sites and measure their habitat value by recording their species richness. Survey clients include RSPB, Forestry Commission Scotland, Butterfly Conservation, and Carroglen Farm, Comrie. Nick Cooke has studied Lepidoptera all his life and he believes strongly in involving the growing number of people interested in learning more about this important aspect of our native wildlife. Some of Nick’s projects therefore include an element of ‘citizen science’ participation by the general public, e.g. as part of National Moth Night or the Big Butterfly Count.
Household Food Waste Management
CLEAR Services provides consultancy support in Scotland to Great Green Systems Ltd, the UK distributors of the Green Johanna ‘hot composter’ and similar food waste digester products – see www.greatgreensystems.com Recent moves by local Councils to set up segregated kerbside collection of household food waste are expensive and not always effective; a more cost-effective alternative use of a Green Johanna in the garden will dispose of all domestic food waste and convert it into re-usable high quality compost.
Charity Administration and Governance
CLEAR Services provides administrative and Company Secretary services to the Sons of the Rock Society, a local grant making charity www.sonsoftherock.org.uk. Previous work within the UK voluntary sector has included charity restructuring and governance reviews, ‘change agent’ consultancy work, business and strategic planning, facilitation and project management. Nick Cooke is qualified to act as Independent Financial Examiner to smaller unincorporated charities.
